By Dr. Christopher J. Fischer N.D.

Auto Immune Disease is among the fastest growing classifications of disease with the least amount of effective conventional treatments.  To better understand auto immunity we need to list some commonalities between the most common diagnoses:

  1. Immune sensitivity to normal body tissues. The all important immune system fighting with your own normal cells.
  2. Connective tissue damage. Connective tissue as the name suggests provides the glue to hold muscle, bone, ligament etc. together. When damage occurs many tissues can be effected.
  3. Multiple vitamin, mineral, and nutritional co-factor deficiencies.  No matter how good your diet and supplements may be, auto immunity can require increased amounts of common and uncommon nutrients.
  4. Multi organ system damage. The immune system provides protection         throughout the body however when self-immunity occurs, nearly all tissues are potential targets.
  5. Multiple potential causative factors, examples include: genetic traits, food allergy or intolerance, Increased intestinal permeability, undiagnosed viral illnesses, and abnormally shaped red blood cells.

Preventive and Therapeutic Lifestyle Factors
  1. A healthy balanced diet. A blend of protein, whole carbohydrates, and healthy fats in each meal split into small portions eaten throughout the day.
  2. Allergy elimination diet. 2weeks to 1month or more eliminating the most common food allergens including: Corn, Wheat, Soy, Eggs, Dairy, and Citrus fruit. Foods are re-introduced one at a time while observing for physical and emotional symptoms.
  3. Therapeutic Fasting. The elimination of solid foods to allow the digestive tract time to repair and rebuild. Only while under supervision of a professional with therapeutic fasting training.
  4. Hydrotherapy. As prevention and to ease symptoms. Therapeutic use of hot and cold can decrease the inflammation of muscles, joints, as well as internal body systems associated with auto-immune conditions.
